Herätyskello soi… missä olemme? Miten päädyimme tänne?? … Olemme yhä Suomessa! Viimeinen aamu sarastaa ja jälleen raahustamme aamiaiselle puoliunessa. Mietimme että jäämmeköhän kaipaamaan unettomuutta kun palaamme kotiin.
Ympärillä näemme eilisillan vahingot. Saunomiskilpailu yhdistettynä ankaraan ei-alkoholittomien virvoitusjuomien kulutukseen on ottanut veronsa. Onneksi emme unohtaneet valmistella tulevaa case-esitystä hyvissä ajoin vaan saatoimme käydä suoraan työn touhuun. Himos-casen muisteleminen vaatii oman aikansa, mutta pikku hiljaa muisti alkaa palautua ja mieleemme palaa jopa järkeviä ajatuksia ja ideoita. Kaikilla ryhmillä oli samankaltaisia ajatuksia, mikä näytti tyydyttävän Himoksen edustajaa. Peurunka- case olikin paljon helpompi. Esitykset ja vierailu Peurungassa olivat vielä tuoreessa muistissa, joten meidän oli helpompi antaa risuja ja ruusuja Peurungan edustajalle. Slovenialaisten kuvaama lyhytelokuva Peurungasta oli valtava menestys. Puimme Peurungan edustajan kanssa joitain tärkeimpiä kohtia esityksissä. Olimme kaikki helpottuneita, että saimme kunnialla hoidettua case-tehtävät.
Sen sijaan, että olisimme saaneet kovasti kaivattua lepoa, oli lounaan jälkeen vuorossa seuraava toimintanumero – Talviolympialaiset! Saksa voitti (odotetusti) köydenvedon, mutta suomalaiset dominoivat loppuja lajeja voittamalla lumikenkäviestin ja saappaanheiton. Lopuksi homma päättyi lumisotaan.
Päivämme Vesalassa on suunniteltu ruokailujen ympärille, joten seuraavaksi oli jälleen kahvitauko. Tämän jälkeen oli vuorossa Erasmus-opintojen yhteenveto. Yksitoista päivää on kulunut yhdessä silmänräpäyksessä.
Mitä me olemme oppineet? Mitä tämä on antanut meille? Onko sauna jo lämpiämässä?
Olemme päätyneet siihen, että ennakko-odotukset voivat joskus olla yllättävänkin todenmukaisia. Rauhalliset, vakavat, maitoa juovat, kalpeat ja tuntemattomat suomalaiset kuitenkin omaavat tämän lisäksi suuren määrän kuivaa mutta hilpeää huumoria. Saksalaiset yllättivät kaikki avoimuudellaan ja espanjalaiset puolestaan vastasivat ennakko-odotuksia muuten, paitsi ollen vielä epätäsmällisempiä kuin odotimme. Vain slovenialaiset pysyivät yhä mysteerinä, mutta tämä johtunee siitä, että minkäänlaisia ennakko-odotuksia ei ollut.
Läksijäisjuhlien DJ- on tekemässä sound checkiä. Olemme siirtymässä päärakennukseen viimeiselle ehtoolliselle yhdessä. Ajatukset harhailevat uusiin seikkailuihin. Joillakin meistä matka jatkuu Berliinin kansainvälisille matkamessuille, toisilla on kokeita edessä, jotkut ikävöivät perheitään ja espanjalaista ruokaa. Loput ovat vain niin väsyneitä, että miettivät kuinka on mahdollista selvitä hengissä näin pitkään ilman riittävää unta.
Tämä on ollut mahtava kokemus! Lopputulos on ollut odottamaton ja ainutlaatuinen. Haluamme kiittää järjestäjiä, jotka ovat antaneet meille tämän mahdollisuuden. Uusi formaatti, uusi maa, uusia ystäviä ja paljon tietoa – sauna on kuuma, järvi jäätävän kylmä, olut on kylmää. Ei ole aikaa hukattavaksi… VIVA FINLANDIA!
Viva Finlandia!
Alarm is ringing… where are we? How did we get here?? … we’re still in Finland!
The last day dawns, once more to breakfast still half asleep. We wonder if we will actually miss the insomnia once we get back home.
Looking around, last night’s damage becomes visible. Sauna-competition in combination with an elevated consumption of non-anti-alcoholic beverages has taken its toll.
Luckily we did not forget to prepare the slides for the upcoming presentations of our case studies ahead of time, so we can get straight to work. To get back to the Himos case study takes some time, but slowly the thoughts are coming back and we manage to articulate some sensible ideas and suggestions. All together we come up with similar points, which seems to satisfy the Himos representative. The Peurunka case is a lot easier. The presentations and the visit are still fresh in our short-time memory, so more of us contribute their opinions and give some critical and interesting input. The movie about the stay in Peurunka, which was shot by the Slovenian group, is a big hit with everybody and the Peurunka representative goes through some ideas with us.
We are all relieved that the wrap-up of the case studies went that well.
Instead of some badly needed rest after the lunch, the next action is coming up – winter Olympics! Germany wins (as expected) the rope-pull, but the Finns dominate the rest of the contest by sweeping everyone in snow-shoe racing and boot-hurling. It all ends up into a big snowball fight.
Since our days in Vesala are planned around meals, the organizers make us have a coffee break before we get to the educational wrap-up of our course. Eleven days passed by in a heartbeat!
What have we learned? What can we take from here? Have they turned the sauna back on?
We have come to the conclusion that preconceptions are sometimes more true than one might expect. The calm, serious, milkdrinking, pale and unknown Finnish just add a huge ounce of dry but hilarious humor, and while Germans surprised everyone with their openness, Spaniards met their prejudices minus a lack of unpunctuality. Only the Slovenians remain a mystery, but that could be because there never were any preconceptions.
The DJ for the good-bye party is checking the sound. We migrate to the main building for the last supper together. Thoughts wander off to new adventures. For some of us this trip will continue to the ITB in Berlin, others have exams coming up, are missing their families and Spanish food and the rest is just so tired they wonder how it is possible to survive so long without sufficient amount of sleep.
It has been a great experience! Outcome has been unique and unexpected. We want to thank the organizers for having given us this opportunity! A new format, a new country, new friends and loads of input – the sauna is hot, the lake is freezing, the beer is cold - there is no time to lose… VIVA FINLANDIA!
